Janie is a Junior majoring in Biochemistry. She is also a registered nurse and lactation consultant at PeaceHealth. Janie hopes to combine her clinical background and training in disease sympotomolgy and treatment with graduate training in biochemistry in order to pursue a career that will fulfill her joint interests in clinical practice and biochemical research. She is currently working on a project that will elucidate the mechanism by which a DNA polymerase complex is loaded onto a strand of DNA during replication.

Alicia is a Senior majoring in Psychology. She is exploring how infants use segmentation cues in the motion stream to aid their processing of events. Alicia is investigating this topic by presenting infants with edited digitized videos. Each video has certain frames of the motion stream "highlighted" (with a brief flash and audio tone). Alicia predicts that highlighting event boundaries in novel, never-before seen and difficult to process videos will underscore their sub-action segments - making them less taxing for babies to process, and hence increasing the amount of time infants will look at the video stimuli in these conditions.

Imelda is a Senior majoring in Environmental Studies and Geography. She is researching how changes in stream response due to human modifications on the riverbed are perceived. In particular, she is interested in investigating how people who were affected by the January 1997 floods on the Applegate watershed perceive and respond to the flood event. Imelda's research involves examining maps of the river segments, aerial photos, and historical documents to determine the history and effect of human modifications to the riverbed (such as dams, rock walls, and drainage ditches). She will also interview area residents who were affected by the floods to determine the perceptions of the causes and impacts of the floods.
